About Mary Moo

A life long artist, primarily self-taught, I enjoy creating something from nothing and putting my creativity to use. I am a survivor of mental illness and use art and humor to explore my emotional states. As a multi-disciplinary artist, I use a variety of mediums and techniques to convey different ideas or just simply create beautiful and fun objects to be shared with others. I do photography, poetry, book-making, installation, painting, sculpture and jewelry.

Bright abstractions with positive energy are explored in my paintings of fish, birds, cats and cityscapes.

I use found objects, recyclable materials and my drawings to create jewelry. I like to use discarded materials to create whimsical and one of a kind wearable works of art. Currently, I am using bottle caps with drawings or images and rolled paper beads to make bracelets, necklaces and pins.

I also explore concepts like significant weight loss, homelessness and self-reflection with writing, photography and video. The result of this work has been gallery installations, sculpture, and altered books.

My altered book titled, In the Tank, documents and comments on toilets in Minnesota. This book has brought much joy and laughter to people. Since people want to contribute to this project by giving me photos or sharing stories about toilets or bathrooms, I have decided to make a sequal.
